About This Site...
Submitted by Mile23 on Mon, 2005-06-27 11:39Welcome to Mile23.com!
Wondering what this is all about? Click on 'read more.'
NOTE: Mile23.com hates spam more than you do, and if you got spam that said it was from mile23.com, then my condolences, but it didn't originate here.
Mile23.com is a blatant piece of self promotion by a guy called Paul Mitchum.
Beyond that, it's a platform for ephemera, bits of tid, and the kind of information that fills nooks and crannies.
More Security
Submitted by Mile23 on Tue, 2007-02-13 19:43Update to Drupal 5.1 complete. We hope.
Some modules I use aren't available for v.5, so let's see how it goes. I might shift back to 4.7.6.
More update.... It took some doing to get the image toolkit working. After installing the image module, trying to change that setting would show me that there were no toolkits avaialble, so drupal would use it's built-in GD. Of course that didn't actually happen; no toolkit was used, so trying to upload an image resulted in no thumbnails.
Drupal Security Update
Submitted by Mile23 on Thu, 2006-08-10 18:27I updated drupal with all the latest security stuff. So basically some stuff will look different for a little while, and some stuff may not work at the moment.
If you depend on this web site for anything, please let me know so I can thank you and maybe send you some flowers or something. But sorry for the inconvenience.

I've Turned Comments Off
Submitted by Mile23 on Fri, 2006-01-13 14:53I've turned off comments. Too much comment spam, and not enough anything else.
If you've left comments in the past, I appreciate the dialogue. Comments might come back, especially if I decide to have a more political site. But for now they're just an annoyance from an administrative standpoint.
Daily Dose Of Exploits
Submitted by Mile23 on Thu, 2005-07-21 13:42Today I learned about a new thing: Referrer spam.
The idea is that you get your referrer URL put into as many web sites' logs as possible, since those logs are sometimes visible to web spiders. The referers are usually presented as links, so, say, googlebot will pick them up and rank the referrer page as being linked from many sources.
Tricky, insidious, wasteful, and kinda clever. :-)
Solutions include modifying .htaccess and/or adding a rule to mod_security.
There's also the Awstats vulnerability, which someone with a North Korean IP is trying to sniff out on my server. Good thing I don't use Awstats.

Submitted by Mile23 on Mon, 2005-07-11 20:06Anybody who wants to can get a user account here, subject to approval. With that comes a 'blog and the ability to comment, but no guarantee.
That last bit about guarantees comes from the fact that I'm not sure what's in store for this little web site.
Don't let sean be the only one. :-)

As Much To Remind Myself...
Submitted by Mile23 on Mon, 2005-07-11 14:28I modified the image module to spit out a ColorInfo tag for IE.
I want to host some image gallery type stuff here, so eventually there'll be a mod to image.module to determine an image's ICC profile and send it out properly, but for now, it's all sRGB, bay-bee.
More info on color management for the web.

Welcome, Mile 23 fans!
Submitted by Mile23 on Sat, 2005-07-09 12:25I was looking at the referrer logs, and discovered that some people are searching for 'mile 23' on Google, and ending up at your humble 'blogger's web site. Which is fine with me, except that I'm not getting a nickel per visit... :-)
But the point is that I've discovered that there's a mile23.net, which is a promo site for a band called... Mile 23. They have streaming audio on their site, and they're not bad. Not my cuppa, but at least they're competent, ya know?
Anyway. Welcome Mile 23 fans! You're at Mile 23 on the wrong road, but the band is a single click away.
